Osmunda’s deep green can standing in one fleck of sun in a wood cut like a woodblock, OSMUNDA running up its side and the fern’s coil printed on it still shut in its wool; black ferns behind it, young ferns still curled

Osmunda

A fern that unfurls as you arrive.

Work — Drinks in cans

One spring, held back.

I made Osmunda in 2026 to show what I do — a sparkling green tea, on no shelf, and nobody’s client.

The covers

First, the light is taken away.

A gyokuro garden’s spring, the way its growers keep it: cloth against the frost, a fine screen from mid-April, straw on top a week before the pick. Twenty days under cover. The young shoots grow thin and tender, reaching for what still gets through.

The covering calendar gyokuro, first flush · after the covered gardens of Uji and Yame · the trade’s own figures

In that shade

Turn the can.

Its back, in the same patch of light.

SPARKLING GREEN TEA

GROWN TWENTY DAYS IN THE SHADE

LIGHTLY SPARKLING . NO SUGAR

WATER, GYOKURO GREEN TEA, CO2

KEEP COLD. DRINK IN THE SHADE.

Osmunda’s can turned to its back in the same fleck of sun: its five lines of small print, OSMUNDA . 2026 under them, a bar code in a pale panel, and 330 ML at the foot

Osmunda, its back 330 ml

Twenty days on

Then the light comes back.

The same wood at noon, the turn of April into May.

The same wood twenty days on: the can in its fleck of sun, the fern printed on it opening into a young frond, the young ferns behind it opening after it

Twenty days on the same wood at noon
