Resol’s cans in a row on a stone shelf against an old lime wall in the hard sun of 17:45, each half one fruit’s colour and half white, RESOL running up the colour, the fruit and 330 ML at its foot; their shadows laid to the right on the wall, the sky over its rounded top

Resol

A family that only changes colour.

Work — Drinks in cans

One ray of sun, followed.

At 17:45 on 5 August, one ray of the sun comes down on a terrace in Mojácar. Resol is a family of eight fruit sodas I made in 2026 to show what I do — it’s on no shelf, and nobody’s client.

The sky

It leaves the sun 39.7° up.

17:45 on 5 August over Mojácar. The sun stands just south of west, 45° off the face of the old lime wall.

The sun’s path over Mojácar 37.14° N · 5 August 2026 · drawn from NOAA’s solar equations

The old lime

It lands on the lime first.

The first idea

I asked it to colour the wall.

Every can one colour all round, in the same sun, against the same lime. The wall stayed white.

The first idea, a test frame: Resol’s cans in a row on the same stone shelf against the same old lime wall in the same sun, each can one colour all round, RESOL running up it in white, the fruit and 330 ML at its foot; their shadows grey on the wall, the wall behind them still white

The cans

So every can is half white.

One colour, then white — the white turned to the can beside it.

Resol as made: the cans in a row on the stone shelf against the old lime wall at 17:45, each half one fruit’s colour and half white, the white half turned to the can beside it; RESOL running up the colour, the fruit and 330 ML at its foot

The whites

Seven whites. One white ink.

Every white half is printed the same. In the sun each one holds something of the can beside it. Out of the sun, it lets it go.
